The Samyang 8mm Fisheye Lens: High quality Images at a allocation Price

The Samyang 8mm Fisheye lens is maybe the most underrated third-party fisheye lens on the market today. The Samyang is a full frame diagonal fisheye lens best excellent for digital cameras with Aps-C sized sensors. Samyang also industry fisheye lenses for cameras with the four-thirds mount (2x crop). In all, mounts are ready for Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Panasonic and Olympus.

The Samyang 8mm Fisheye lens is precisely sold under numerous brand names like Vivitar, Pro-Optic, Bower, Falcon and Rokinon to name just a few of the best know ones. They are all the same lens; Samyang simply allows licensees to market their lenses under their own brand names. From what I've seen Vivitar seems to be the only brand that looks different than the others; but make no mistake about it, the optics are the same.

I was pleasantly surprised at the image ability of this lens. Quite frankly, my first impressions were not exactly inescapable because of the low cost. Usually, your not going to get a good ability lens for under 0.00. The caveat: "you get what you pay for" regularly holds true when it comes to optics. The Samyang 8mm is one of those rare exceptions.

The Samyang 8mm creates great images. Color saturation and incompatibility exceeded my expectations. Image sharpness rivals that of any of the higher end fisheyes except for the Canon 15mm. The more costly fisheye's may have a dinky edge when it comes to image ability but nobody could say that any of these fisheye lenses are 2-3 times best than a Samyang; and this is how much more a high-end fisheye lens will cost you.

Chromatic aberration could be better, but when you think the cost it's easy to overlook and easy to fix if you have Photoshop and shoot in Raw.

Features of the Samyang 8mm

The Samyang 8mm fisheye is a solidly built lens. It weighs anywhere from 14-16 ounces depending on the mount your using. It has a close focusing distance of 12 inches, which is more than what you'd find on a higher end fisheye lens but still more than adequate to move in close to your subject matter. It has a maximum gap ,break of f/3.5 which is not quite as fast as most upscale fisheye's.

Minor things that can precisely be overlooked when you think the visual ability of the lens. If the Samyang is such a great lens then why is is so cheap?

Is there a catch, or is the Samyang to good to be true?

The Cons of the Samyang 8mm Fisheye Lens

Of procedure there's a catch. The Samyang 8mm is a no-frill lens. It does not consolidate with your cameras system. There's no auto focus on this lens and the gap ,break has to be set manually. Back in the stone age of photography before Af came along this is how it was done. precisely its not that bad. Focusing is not that considerable with a fisheye because of the ultimate depth of field you get with any ultra wide angle lens. This lens is going to be in focus most of the time.

There's also no provision for filters at the rear of the lens like you find on the champagne models.

If getting back to basics doesn't bother you and you don't care about using filters then the Samyang 8mm Fisheye Lens is a great deal and you'll be able to originate some eye boggling images with it. The best part: you can regularly pick this lens up for under 0.00

This lens probably won't request for retrial to a pro photographer who needs a fisheye lens for his or her work, but it's a good option for the pro or serious hobbyist who can't explain spending a lot of money on a lens that they will hardly ever use.

Just be truthful which brand you go with in terms of warranty etc.
